Carnegie Hall Poster
The poster on the left is the one advertising our concert of Karl Jenkins music. Two Hilo choruses participated (my Hilo Community Chorus and the University of Hawaii at Hilo Showcase Singers) along with choruses from the UK, South Africa and Australia. The piece the Hilo groups sang was the Requiem.
Here's a letter to the editor of our local paper from the General Director of the organization putting on the concert (Distinguished Concerts International New York):
To the Editor:
We are pleased to inform you that singers from Hilo Community Chorus (Tom McAlexander, director) performed at New York’s renowned Carnegie Hall on Monday evening, January 21, 2008, in a tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr.
Appearing with several other ensembles from the U.S. and abroad, known collectively as the Distinguished Concerts Singers International, the ensemble performed Karl Jenkins’ “Requiem” with the Distinguished Concerts Orchestra International; soloists Pamela Hinchman, soprano; Tracy Watson, mezzo-soprano; William Watson, tenor; and Ricardo Herrera, bass; under the baton of maestro Jonathan Griffith.
The program was received with prolonged applause, and the singers from Hilo were essential to the program’s artistic success.
We at DCINY congratulate this group on their performance. We hope to invite them to participate in future concerts at New York’s top venues and abroad.

I love Karl's music too. My chorus has now participated in several concerts at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center featuring his music. And incidentally, his score for River Queen is one of my favorites.Andreas H. Schneider 7. März 2012, 10:32
Karl Jenkins - a great composer. I also like his stuff with Ian Carr's Nucleus and Soft Machine.Alfred Spectrum 3. August 2008, 4:29
