Der Affenberg Landskron (bei Villach in Kärnten) ist ein 4ha großes Areal, in welchem rund 180 Japanmakaken (auch Schneeaffen genannt) relativ frei leben. Dieses Gehege gibt es seit 1996 und wurde 2023 zusammen mit der Burg und der Adlerarena zum schönsten Platz Österreichs gewählt.
Wir Menschen gehen dann da rein und beobachten und bestaunen die Tiere. Ich frage mich dann immer: Was denken sie denn über uns!? Denken sie, dass wir eigentlich gut sind und nur manchmal aus Dummheit oder Unsicherheit unerklärliche Dinge tun!? Wir werden es wohl leider nie erfahren …

Affenberg Landskron (near Villach in Carinthia) is a 4-hectare enclosure where around 180 Japanese macaques (also known as snow monkeys) live relatively freely. This enclosure has existed since 1996 and was voted the most beautiful place in Austria in 2023 together with the castle and the eagle arena.
We humans go in there and watch and marvel at the animals. I always ask myself: What do they think about us? Do they think that we are actually good and only sometimes do inexplicable things out of stupidity or insecurity? Unfortunately, we will probably never know ...
