Old meets New - in Downtown Vancouver (8)

The Gate to Chinatown (well, the part that spans the bicycle path ..... to photograph the centre one would have to stand in the middle of the street). In the far background is the Sun Tower where our newspaper The Sun was published in former times. This image faces away from Chinatown.

For a while this image is the last of the downtown series .... will show you a bit from Chinatown next.

Hier gibt's einiges zu bewundern, ein spannender Schmelztiegel verschiedener Zeiten und unterschiedlicher Kulturen!

Very interesting gate, almost pompous. I'm looking forward to your Chinatown pics.
@ Leo - all the missing Chinese are behind Adele's back, since the image faces out of Chinatown :-)

Chinese architecture is so distinct and beautiful and I am with Sabine, I would love to know what the Chinese symbols spell out too! I love the flamboyant colours on the gate and the gold stripe at the bottom of the pillars. Looking forward to more in the series.
    Regards
    Sally

Yes I was thinking the same like Venta about old and new, east and west.

wish i were able to decipher those pretty red chinese letters on the pillar – well, my guess would be "thank you for visiting vancouver's chinatown" ; )), but then, you never know – it might just say "beware of the dragon that's following you…" ; ))) i agree with dirk van appeldorn! no rush hour indeed, and i'm also looking forward to seeing more of chinatown! i love the "chinatowns of the world", always bright and cheerful and different looking! hugs, sabine.
