The Living Forest (31) : Yellow slug on Brick tuft.

In autumn, not only fungi can be found in the forest, but also life.
You can see here a beautiful specimen of a Yellow slug feeding on Brick tuft fungi.

Yellow slugs are nowadays a rather rare species with a striking yellow body, mottled with grey and two pair of steely blue tentacles to sense the environment . The upper pair is used to sense light and the lower pair provides the slug's sense of smell.
They are mostly feeding on fungi and……. are mad about the smell of beer ! (hence its German name)

Dutch name : Lichte aardslak
German name : Bierschnegel (auch Kellerschnecke genannt)
Latin name : Limax Flavus

Hey Mark, I did not know there were yellow slugs there in Europe. I thought they were only here along the west coast of N. America. A good shot of this one munching fungi. -Archie

Ich glaube, so eine gelbe Schnecke habe ich auch noch nicht gesehen - klasse beobachtet bei der Futtersuche auf den schönen rötlichen Pilzen.

Excellent shot of the slug. I think I've never seen yellow slugs. Those I know are all brown.
