In Ancient Ephesus (7)

ruins of the ancient Greek city of Ephesus, built in the 10th century B.C. close to the Ionian Coast of Turkey - here the most photographed and well preserved ruin of the LIBRARY OF CELSUS ....... Celsus was a 2nd-century Greek philosopher and opponent of Early Christianity. He is known for his literary work, The True Word (also Account, Doctrine or Discourse) which survives exclusively in Origen's quotations from it in Contra Celsum. This work, c. 177[1] is the earliest known comprehensive attack on Christianity ..... thank you, Wikipedia

Great to see this historic gem from another angle. Together with the theatre it is the highlight of Ephesus isn't it!

Superb shot of the famous and imposing facade of the great library for the construction of which Celsus spent his entire fortune and, eventually, ordered that himself to be buried in it...Amazing that both most biggest in the ancient world libraries, Alexandrias and Ephessus, have been destroyed by fires!..How different our world would have been had they survived..
A really beautiful and documental shot,Adele.
    many regards alexander
