Boats in Xochimilco, Mexico City

In Aztec times, Mexico City – or Tenochtitlan as it was then called – was an island in a vast lake, instead of roads they had canals. The whole lake has been dried up to make way for Mexico City, except for some areas in a suburb called Xochimilco, therefore listed as world cultural heritage. It was interesting to see the crumbling cathedral and of course the canals, although nothing obviously reveals their pre-Hispanic origin.
