Walvis Bay Lagune
Namibia: The Walvis Bay Lagune is the single most important wetland in Southern Africa frequented by migratory birds who escape the harsh winter months of Europe.During Europe"s autumn and winter months up to 250 000 birds can be found here. Amongst them various species of flamingoes, 60-70% of the world population of plovers and 40% of the african sub-species of grebe.Recently a bird ringed 23 years ago was found at the beach, in other words it had flown from Siberia to Namibia at least 23 times. The white horizon shows the large numbers of flamingoes and pelicans. There are signs that the lagune is silting up. More information can be found on Google under "Walvis Bay Ramsar Site"
