Queen of the Skies
Even in partial shadow and surrounded by ground equipment, this Lufthansa 747-400
makes a powerful statement on the Washington-Dulles (IAD) tarmac, her majesty
all the more apparent alongside the nearby A-320 and the ground workers.
Soon, she will make an even more powerful statement as she thunders down the runway,
lifts her massive self into the skies, and whisks us off to Europe.

she looks very imposing, self-confident and reliable indeed! i hope someone checked her undercarriage before take-off?! i'm still under the spell of those pictures we saw on tv last night: a 767 from newark sliding safely and smoothly on her tummy across a carpet of foam – hello, warsaw! – because the wheels just couldn't be cajoled into to participating in the landing; )).* gosh, what a nightmare!!! but you posted this shot AFTER boarding and flying with it, didn't you? so i guess everything went well, and the queen didn't let you down… ; )) greetings, sabine.*http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-15543209
