San Francisco ist eine Küstenstadt... offensichtlich. Und so ziemlich überall an der Küste gibt es Möwen. Möwen (Laridae) sind wohl mit Tauben die erfolgreichsten Kulturfolger in der Klasse der Vögel (Aves), und wie ich finde garnicht so schlecht wie ihr Ruf. Sie sind ausgezeichnete Segelflieger, z.T. gefräßige Jäger und eine der diversesten Vogelfamilien der gemäßigten und kalten Bereiche dieser Erde. Diese hier würde ich, unter den mehr als 55 Arten, den Namen Westmöwe (Larus occidentalis) zuordnen, auch wenn ich mir nicht sicher bin und z.T. selbst Wissenschaftler nicht die genaue Artanzahl feststellen können.

San Francisco is a coastal city… obviously. And all around the world, at every coast, you’ll find gulls. Gulls (Laridae) are probably one of the most successful hemerophiles within the classes of birds (Aves), only comparable to pigeons. In my opinion, gulls are fascinating animals and way better their reputation. They can be formidable glider, fearsome predators and one of the most divers bird families around the temperate and cold parts of the world. This one is likely a so-called western gull (Larus occidentalis). Even though, I’m not 100% sure and even scientist still don’t known how many species there actually are.
