Blackbird (male)
One of our best song birds. They are among the first birds to sing at dawn and the last to finish at dusk.
The song is a varied and melodious low-pitched fluted warble, given from trees, rooftops or other elevated perches mainly in the period from march to june.
Many consider the Blackbird’s song even more beautiful than that of the Nightingale……. !
Something interesting to know : a Blackbird has an average life expectancy of 2,4 years. Based on data from bird ringing, the oldest recorded age is 21 years and 10 months !
Dutch name : Merel
German name : Amsel
Latin name : Turdus merula

wow! what a beautiful shot of this "resting" male blackbird! picked a lovely tree to sit on, too – such a great bright "spring dress"! in our yard the blackbirds are really thriving – almost too many of them, always eating up our cherries ; ))! most of them a great singers, except for one: he's the black sheep of the family, i'm sure, for his favorite hobby (every morning at 5 right outside my window ; )))!) is to imitate the sound of a car alarm: "beep, beep, beep, beep, beep!" pretty creative of him, i guess… greetings, sabine.javier dominguez plessmann 6. Majestic look on his face.Black birds have "moved" to my backyard few years ago and I like them a lot although in the beginning they were pretty agressive and tried to scare robins which has been in our backyard for many years.
For one season we didnt' have robins so next year I wasn't too nice to blackbirds in the early spring.
They understood that I guess, now they "behave" They have learned to share my backyard with other birds.
Greetings,
Nancy

LG Gunther
