A very rare scene on model railway layouts!
Authentic scene, as it was practised around Saarbruecken with their class 23 engines coupled tender first to the cars. Normally, as it was practised around Essen with classes 65 and 78, around Frankfurt and Munich with class 38.10(with enclosed cab) the engines were coupled smokebox first to the cars.
A very nice scene, hope pushing the train worked properly!

  Thanks Tom. Yes I knew the 23s operated with push pulls - not for v long I think - they were shortly superseded by the 215s? Works very well - can run all day in push mode. Didn't when I bought the driving trailer (second hand) which was what led me to do this train. Very satisfied with the result. We didn't run such trains here but they did in the UK - though with mechanical mechanisms rather than pneumatic which meant shorter trains:
