The Fungi World (131) : Dog Stinkhorn
One for the ladies……. :-))
The Dog Stinkhorn is a phallus-shaped woodland fungus that emerges from an off-white egg-like fruiting body that lies half buried in leaf litter on the forest floor.
When the ‘egg’ splits open, the fungus expands rapidly (usually within a few hours) to its full height of 10–12 cm.
Dutch name : Kleine Stinkzwam
German name : Gemeine Hundsrute
Latin name : Mutinus caninus
Here you can see a picture of his big brother, the common Stinkhorn

The name is definitely off-putting - and so is the "aroma" I imagine ... but this smooth and shiny phallic growth emerging from the splitting "egg" is quite attractive - beautiful the olive contrasting with the creamy white ... a fantastic macro capture !!!greetings, Adele

Auch wenn er sich zuerst durch unangenehme Gerüche bemerkbar macht, ein besonders interessanter Pilz! Und fotografisch bestens portraitiert!Gruß, Gunther
