The Corona
of the eclipsed sun as the moon covered the sun totally ... you can, however, see a small red spot on the bottom as the moon is already leaving again ... then - no more pictures and back to the glasses. During the 3 minutes of the total eclipse it got darkish and very cool and windy - and it was so silent, and several birds were flying around the ship seemingly confused. Yes - a lifetime experience !!!
taken with my Canon Digital Rebel - handheld, 1/10 second .... and slightly edited (contrast of light and shadow) - Nov. 14/2012 in the Southern Pacific Ocean, a day and night away from the Fiji Islands.

wow, the atmosphere you describes sounds fascinating!! i bet it takse one back in time, inspiring thoughts about the existential fear it must have triggered in people of ancient times who didn't yet know what a total eclipse of the sun meant, how it came about and that it would eventually pass – just like the birds they were probably terrified! how lucky you were to be able to witness this "celestial event" under a clear sky. remember watching a total eclipse of the sun in august of 1999 and being somewhat disappointed by it, as the sky was too cloudy to really see and feel it and be impressed. hugs, sabine.
