After the German Wehrmacht conquered almost Western Europe, the Army Headquarter faced a new problem. Around 5000 km of coastal lines had to be secured against possible attacks of Allied forces. Therefore the European Atlantic Coast, from Norway to the Spanish border, became equipped with thousands of bunkers to stop any potential invasion. 1800 larger and a lot more small bunkers were constructed in Denmark alone, part of the so called Atlantic Wall. Many of them are still visible within the dunes and on the beaches, quiet witnesses to a dark chapter of history.
