nachträglich die Antwort des momentanen lodge managers dort: "
There has never been an introduction (to my knowledge) of black faced impala in the Sabi Sand or KNP. This would most definitely result in hybridizing of the species which is ecologically unethical.
It is difficult to determine from the images but the images of the ewes are definitely common Impala (Aepaceros melampus melampus).Note how dark the markings in the Black faced Impala (Aepaceros melamus petersii) is on the attached image. The black faced impala is substantially larger the "Common" impala (at least 10kg heavier) but it is difficult to determine size from the images.
The picture of the young ram is interesting but merely a high melanin content on the face as he is not as dark as the Black faced impala, this might also be accentuated by the format of the picture.
In most impala you would note a darker patch on the face but not as distinct as the black faced, the size would be a great help, and the distribution would seal it as the black faced impala only occurs in Namibia and parts of Angola. The stretches of desert between the (Kalahari/Karoo) between the sub species home ranges most probably the cause for the occurrence of as sub species in the first place as with Black rhino and Desert black rhino.

@Andreas: dann wurde das Tier wohl schnell aus Namibia eingeflogen ;-)). Die Aufnahme habe ich auf dem Gelände des Inyati-lodges (Krügerpark) gemacht; wie das Tier dort hin gelangt ist, ist mir auch ein Rätsel. In der Etoshapfanne war ich noch nie. Und was Dein Text mit dem Jagdverbot soll verstehe ich überhaupt nicht, hast Du da richtig gelesen und das Lied mal gehört?

Die Überschrift passt nicht, denn es handelt sich hier um die seltene Unterart der Impalas, die nur in der Etoshapfanne vorkommen: Die Schwarzgesichtimpala. In der Etoshapfanne herrscht Jagdverbot. Allerdings ist jedes pflanzenfressende Wildtier ein potentielles Opfer für die Fleischfresser. VG Andreas
