An alley in Shigatse

Shigatse is of great importance for its location in this area. It is 300 kilometers away from the world's highest peak the Mt. Everest, 150 kilometers and also on the only path to Tibet's holy lakes the Manasarovar Tso and the Raksas Tal Langa Tso. Thus it is quite an important base for people heading for those places.
It also was the last city for us to send the e-mails to our relatives to inform them, every thing was alright. It was the last station to fill all our jerrycans and it was the last place to have a delicious dish.
Shigatse means 'the fertile land'. The way on goes on through a dessert like landscape.
This picture shows the way to the main monastery Tashilhunpo.

Danke Sylvia, das Sherpa-Land ist aber noch viel weiter weg, denn es liegt auf der anderen Seite des Everest im Khumbu-Land in Nepal. In der Provinz Shigatse aber leben heute etwa 2.000 Sherpas, die derzeit einen Sonderstatus genießen.
Die Sherpas sind ein Volk und dienen selten als Träger sondern meist als Bergführer. Uns begleitete bei unserer Tour um den Kailash ein treuer und erfahrener Sherpa aus Nepal. In Tibet galt er, wie wir, als Tourist.
Der Zugang zum Tashilhunpo Kloster war tatsächlich sehr menschenleer, wir waren, auch im Kloster, fast die einzigen Besucher. Auf dem Rückweg aber füllten sich die Gassen im Laufe des Tages immer mehr mit gläubigen Pilgern. Gruß Wolfgang
