The Living Forest (306) : Lungwort
Lungwort is a wild flower that is often overlooked because of its trifle and likes to grow in fresh and shady areas of beech forests all over Europe.
In spring the plant shows very small tubular flowers (only 0,5 cm in diameter) that are red at first but turn blue-purple as they mature.
In the Middle Ages this plant was known by herbalists who used it to treat coughs and diseases of the chest due to its expectorant effect, hence the name Lungwort.
Dutch name : Gevlekt longkruid
German name : Geflecktes Lungenkraut
Latin name : Pulmonaria officinalis

oh, how pretty! the bicolor blossoms* – red and purple = young and old –, somewhat philosophical, maybe even a little magic, and definitely balm for my troubled city slicker's eyes ; )! i like the shallow dof! it suits the plant well and stresses the opulence of its bloom! greetings, sabine.---------------------------------------------
*in german this plant is alternatively called "hansel and gretel" – kinda poetic, don't you think? needless to say, it's because of its blue and red (boy and girl) colors…
