The Fungi world (30) : Tiered tooth
Here you see an old specimen of a rare and very unusual fungus which was until recently on the Red List of threatened species but has been removed in the last updated version.
It is often growing in a scar from a broken branch as can be seen in the picture.
This fungus is edible when young but this should be strongly advised against because the species is much too rare to be picked for the table !
Dutch name : Gelobde pruikzwam
German name : Dorniger Stachelbart
Latin name : Hericium cirrhatum
