I took this picture at my first portrait shooting. I like to put it to the test here. My portrait skills certainly need improvement so I want you all to shoot at it. Need the picture be sharper or is the soft focus OK, should I have wrapped some light around her face with a reflector, what about the pose, the overall lighting?
I would be grateful if you could write down your thoughs and suggestions so I can do a better job next time.

Yes, certainly. Next time I do a shoot with a model I'll work on the pose. I've been to a fashion show recently to catch some ideas about modern fashion photography. Was a good learning moment.

yes it seems a bit more sensual but gives the photo a feeling of 2005.. if you know what i mean..

@Dennis: thanks! I appreciate your suggestions. Sounds like a more "sensual" pose. I will give it a try in a next portrait shoot. Lack of sharpness is mainly because I scanned the 5x7cm proofprint.

hola.. my suggestions shoud be:
Let the girl raise her arm so that it is over her head.. so that means you should move the camera up a bit and a bit more to the left... so you have the bottom from about her waist (you would also have more window)..
And i would say focus on her eyes..
I would also reduce the border's thickness.. and remove the name.
That's it!

Very good light performance. Sure It needs but don't make the portrait too sharp, softer instead.
the background is very good, I like this style. :)

I like to thank you all for your suggestions. Certainly something I can work with at a next occasion.
This was a shooting with studio lighting but I liked the soft daylight more so I asked one of the models to pose at the window. Although the picture is far from perfect it has more atmosphere than the (technically better) ones I took in the studio with the softbox. That in itself was a good learning experience.

Far as posing, i would have had her cross her arms. It looks as if her hands are cut off. With her crossing her arms and putting her hands both showing would improve the overall effect of this image. I would probably have her turn her head just slightly to her left.The tilt is good. and i like the suttlty of her smile. Eyes are a little dark. Keep practicing!

I agree with Cees the available light is better and a reflector would lighten the darker part of the face a bit. I like the softness of this portrait. Overall it's a beautiful model and a well composed portrait. Well done Robert.

Well Robert, maybe you can light up the left side of the model, with some white reflectors panels.Don`t flash in this situation!! And I like the face some more sharper.Keep it in focus!
