Who said this photograph is "lame"? There are really fine colours, nice contrasts and the composition is fine, the title fitting. It could be a little bit bigger and the file-size should be near to 130 kB. Have a look at the forum "digital photography" what Vladimir Danilov wrote there about "prepare your photos for upload".
So: Welcome to the fc, I hope you'll enjoy it, a great possibility to come in contact with other photographers and get some advice by colleagues. Don't be afraid to ask and to comment! And please, show us more of your work, "lame" or not!
