An intriguing title that has me guessing as to what he could be a witness to. I like the tight crop of this fine portrait.

the witness… to what? despite the light and summery ambience of the image, there seems to be sorrow and pain in his eyes… "bright lights cast dark shadows", they say. wo viel licht ist, ist auch viel schatten… tears and laughter… i like, how the white in his eyes is corresponding with his hat, beard, the hints of flowers in the background, which, by the way, reminds me of a nocturnal firmament specked with stars! greetings, sabine. p.s.: "papa/hemingway!" was my first thought… ; )
