Stone to Stone (Camino francés, 10)

San Juan de la Peña, monastery.

Scan of a 10x15 print

This medieval monastery seems to grow out of the mountain, so close it is built by its constructors to the surrounding rocks, and disposing of an own spring, it was easy to defend. It is not exactly on today's pilgrim's way from Jaca to Santa Cilia, but it is clearly worth the little detour to see it. It is said to be one of the places where the Holy Grail was kept during the middle ages, and some kings of Aragón are buried here.

    Thanks for your comment.
No, I'm not looking for the Holy Grail. I would be more interested in finding the Philosopher's Stone. ;-)
You couldn't find the Grail there. If I remember well, it was transfered to the cathedral of Valencia.
