Between the Locks (2)
Going through the Gaillard Cut where the water is ochre and the bottom is churned up by huge dredgers which are constantly at work.
.
The Gaillard Cut, or Culebra Cut, is an artificial valley that forms part of the Panama Canal, linking Lake Gatún, and thereby the Atlantic Ocean, to the Gulf of Panama and hence the Pacific Ocean. It is 12.6 km (7.8 mi) from the Pedro Miguel lock on the Pacific side to the Chagres River arm of Lake Gatun, with a water level 26 m (85 ft) above sea level.

very interesting again! it must be so hard to keep the canal "navigable" for all those great big ships that pass it every day! and some of the primeval-looking forest seems to "fall victim" to the constant digging, too. the rest still looks like an intact wilderness, though… love the juxtaposition of warm earthen beige with the cool bluish green of the hills in the back! hugs, sabine.
