This was about the time Americans started to resent that foreign cars had gained an enormous popularity. WHIle the American Vehicles began to decline. Here you drove up in American Pickup truck. A Ford, A dodge Ram, or a GMC Suburban. All of these Trucks towered over any foreign vehicle. It was common practice to dent and thing non-American at the time.. In fact it was a joke. You didn't respect the sign it was fair game on your rear fender.
