A Freight Train in your Face

A long southbound CSX freight train rumbles through southwest
Washington, D.C. on its way to Virginia and points south.

It is about to cross over Maine Avenue and onto the Long Bridge,
which will carry the train across the Potomac River into Virginia.

Normally one would expect to see at least two large diesel-electric locomotives on the point of such
heavy freights, but CSX has started using distributed power for better control of long heavy consists,
and so the second locomotive this afternoon is at the middle of the train, controlled by radio from the
lead unit, in this instance, a 4,400 horsepower General Electric Evolution series ET44AH Tier-4 locomotive.

    Oh what a Diesellok.
Nice colors...and I love these fine details at the front of this monster.
    Best Regards HG

Thanks, H-G - I love that Monster-description, for these big brutes do make a visual statement! We could find some of these if we venture beyond NYC next time, either up the Hudson or in NJ.

Splendid view, all the more in color!
And, as also freights would show up here from time to time, a flat with a balcony in one of the buildings, high enough above the trees would be great!
    Have a fine sunday!

There are photographers knowing there could be a point of view somewhere up some balcony or window who just dare ring the bell and ask if they can get in for a shoot... never tried, but, as is reported, they are often successful...

      ;-)!
Proving if you have adequate charm and persistence (and a lot of balls), anything is possible. Though maybe not in Washington ;-)
But your comment did remind  me of a great scene in "Spy Games" where Robert Redford is training Brad Pitt in spy-craft. His assignment: Convince a total stranger to allow him inside his flat so he can appear on the guy's balcony. He succeeds ;-)

Your knowledge of films and thier scenes must be immense! ..apart from music, art, society ...and what have you!

Aw, you flatter me...but thanks! If you ever watch the movie, just catch Pitt's smile - and imagine any of us train photogs in his place (at an appropriate venue, of course!). Incidentally, Pitt's character in the movie used being a photojournalist as a cover for his CIA activities.
