The stony church
Greece Aegean Sea Dodecanese Patmos
Patmos is a tiny island belonging to the Aegean Dodecanese. It is called the Holy island because it is here that St John, the Evangelist,, wrote in a cave the Apocalypse(Revelation). The Chora, capital of the island has a great architectural interest and was declared a Unesco National Heritage. Famous is also the old byzantine St John monastery (1088 AD) but the island has plenty of other churches built in various times. The photo shows a very old one of a very strange rythm, mixture of Byzantine with several foreign influences.
