My Istanbul Impressions (15)
The Yeni Cami or New Mosque - and taken handheld at 1/6 of a second - technically not a very good shot, but I this interor for me very impressive and worth showing...
The Yeni Cami, meaning New Mosque; originally named the Valide Sultan Mosque (Turkish: Valide Sultan Camii) and later New Valide Sultan Mosque (Turkish: Yeni Valide Sultan Camii) after its partial reconstruction and completion between 1660 and 1665; is an Ottoman imperial mosque located in the Eminönü quarter of Istanbul, Turkey. It is situated on the Golden Horn, at the southern end of the Galata Bridge, and is one of the famous architectural landmarks of Istanbul

A! Adele, you took a wonderful picture of a very old and historic invention in the course of architecture,, "the spherical triangle". It was the inovating invention of the two great architects of Byzantine emperor Justinian(518-565 AC), Anthemius and Isidorus, responsible of the building of St Sophia church, in Constantinople. The great problem was the support of the gigantic dome on the main bulk of the church and the eventual solution were the four spherical triangles on which sat the dome safely. Ottoman architects, one of them famous Sinan, used this method in many of their structures later on as in Ahmed mosque(Blue mosque),Yeni Cami (your picture) and others...best regards alexander
