Gateway to Heaven

A "torii" is a gate one passes from the outside world into the sacred ground of a Shinto shrine. This "torii" at Meiji Shrine is the largest one made of wood in the Myojin Style in Japan. A 1,500-year old "Hinoki" or Japan cypress wood from Mt. Tandai-san, Taiwan was used.

I took this picture on May 3, 2009 during the Spring Festival at Meiji Shrine, again with my Nokia N73 cellphone camera.

    Hi Felicity,
I tried to post a comment at your site but I'm not sure if it was actually submitted to you for approval.
Anyway, thank you, I am so touched that you used my photo for your blog. I am based in Central Tokyo and survived the March 11 earthquake.
    Hugs,
    Carrie

    Hi Carina,
I was looking for an appropriate image to go with a short blog post that I wrote today in the aftermath of the Japanese disaster.

Your 'Gateway To Heaven' evoked both strength and calm and I hope that you don't mind that I've chosen to use it.
I've credited you and put a link to this page on my blog.
www.giftsofserendipity.com - the post title is simply Japan if you care to have a look.

    Kind regards,

    Felicity
