My name is Alex Pal and I am a photographer. My primary focus is on portraiture of people with an artistic background, but I love photographing people from all backgrounds who understand photography as a means of artistic expression.
I believe that part of the art of photography is developing a concept for photographic sessions. When doing portraiture I like the subject and me to develop a joint concept before the photographic session.
I currently live in Germany but I have been shooting for years around the world. Vancouver, New Orleans, Baltimore, Athens, Düsseldorf and Cologne are some of the cities I have worked in.
I hold a Master's Degree in cognitive science, which is new field that studies how information on the brain is represented, how perception works, and how cognitive functions as attention and emotion give rise to conscience. My background and my understanding on the cognitive functions infuse my creative process. I strive to capture images full of emotions, drama, contrast, and that ask questions.
As a photographer I use a focused process, working from a simple starting point of the session concept toward the final goal, but I am always ready to allow the session concept to evolve in order to capture a better image. During a photographic session I want the subject involved in the process of capturing their portrait and helping the concept evolve.
I rarely shoot TFP but I always like to support new models when needed.
Please write to me about your ideas for a portrait session or for answers your questions.
