The Living Forest (22) : Drone fly

Last weeks I was exploring several forests in the Belgian Ardennes.
This is the 22th. picture of a series illustrating the living forest.

Insects play a very important role in the living forest (pollinate process, natural housekeeping, food for songbirds,…)
Most of them can be found in sunny open spaces, like this Drone fly. This hoverfly looks somewhat like a Honey bee; it’s called Drone fly because of this resemblance (sometimes also known as False bee)

(This picture was taken outset august and there’s already a bit autumn shade noticeable on the leaves)

Dutch name : Blinde bij
German name : Mistbiene
Latin name : Eristalis tenax
