Luxury-Headphone Prototype (based on AKG K271)

This one-off custom version of the AKG K271 studio headphones was originally designed and handmade for R&D purpose.
It was all about finding out what acoustical influence earcups made of violin grade maple have over the stock earcups made from injection molded ABS plastic.

As you may guess the master grade tone wood compares favourably to the cheap plastic part. Unfortuantely it is not an option for mass-production. Not sure if today´s chinese-made Harman-AKG K271 could really benefit from such a high quality handmade upgrade anyway.

This nice prototype has nicely served me well for over a decade now and I continue to add new ideas of fine-tuning it to my personal needs.
By now it is a really unique, bespoke monitoring tool of highest quality.
