Limestone cave of Remouchamps (Belgium)

In the south of Belgium, several limestone caves are situated, like this one here in Remouchamps, a real fascinating place to explore.

The cave is 3.8 km long with the deepest point located 110m below ground and has all year long a constant temperature around 8°C.
The longest navigable subterranean river known in the world, the Rubicon, flows through this underground cave.

Some 8000 years ago, hunters sheltered themselves already in this cave.
Today it is still the home of a few inhabitants, for example shell-fish, frogs and bats (watch this space tomorrow !)

Many stalactites and stalagmites decorate the interior.
Those dripstone formations were made by the breaking down of rocks, soils and minerals by erosion from water for billions of years, drop by drop by drop by drop…….
