The answer of your question: no it is not a crop.
I make this picture from the bird in about one meter.
The bird was behind the bar.
I mkae this picture with my canon, a Powershot IS5.
A very good camera, with a lens inside from 6.0 - 72.0.
Or canon zoom lens 12x IS
I have a lot of pleasure with this camera.
