Dharahara called the Bhimsen tower
A nine story 62 meter tall tower at the center of Sundhara in Kathmandu. It is situated in the historical city of the capital, and is a part of Architecture of Kathmandu recognized by UNESCO.
It was built in 1832 by the Prime Minister of the time, Bhimsen Thapa of Nepal. Bhimsen Thapa built the tower under the orders of Queen Lalit Tripura Sundari.
The tower has a spiral staircase containing 213 steps.
The 8th floor holds a circular balcony for observers that provides a panoramic view of the whole Kathmandu valley.
The tower now has been open for the general public.
The slide photo was captured during my third tour in 1986 and scanned by a Nikon CoolScan 5000 ED from Kodachrome 100.

danke Tommy, lange Zeit war die Turmbesteigung für Besucher nicht möglich, ich war noch nie oben, werde es aber bei meinem nächsten Besuch in Kathmandu vornehmen. Hoffentlich kommt man in Kathmandu schnell zur Vernunft und findet eine Lösung gegen die extreme Luftverschmutzung, die angeblich eine Papierfabrik verursacht. Gruß Wolfgang--Tommy-- 27. ...der Aufstieg lohnt sich, vom Turm hat man eine fantastische Sicht über die Stadt, leider werden die Berge oft vom Smog geschluckt, und der Blick verliert sich in der grauen Dunstwolke...Gruß Tommy
