I found this woman travelling, risking her life, when we were coming back to city from varsity. As the train was very crowdy, i liked roof of compartment.

I laid down on the roof and two of my friends kept my body steady and i take the shot.

This photo won a gold medal in 67th International Photographic Salon of Japan (Asahi Shimbun) in 2006.

Richard der Loewe, 4.01.2007 um 13:36 Uhr

Congratulation for this shot!

Eddie Maguire, 4.01.2007 um 15:37 Uhr

My god what an increadibly dangerous way to travel. Such a dramatic image that says so much. Excellent work.

Good to see you posting again.

Marc Erpelding, 6.01.2007 um 4:09 Uhr

A really good and unusual picture. The risk you took for taking this picture has paid off. Great capture. Great contrast between dynamic and still. Also the massive train compared to this rather fragile lady! ...and of course it is a very good documentary shot.
Congratulations for the gold medal,

Jutta Washington, 14.01.2007 um 11:22 Uhr

90 and counting.. I'm going away for a wee while and won't be able to look in and see how your image finishes in the vote but I'm sure I'll see it in the gallery when I get back.. (puts his hand to his mouth and whispers secretly.. "congratulations... shhhh don't tell anyone else I said this before the voting finishes..") hope it makes it. (Wink)

Voting Center, 19.01.2007 um 19:48 Uhr

This photo has been selected for the gallery with 84 pro- and 16 contra-votes. Congratulations, Wahid Adnan :-)

Eddie Maguire, 19.01.2007 um 19:48 Uhr

I'm recommending this image for the Documentary and Journalism gallery for very specific reasons. It provides a look through a window we would never see for ourselves, certainly not from this perspective. It is unique, hair-raising to contemplate and was taken with not insignificant risk to the photographer. Not an ordinary photograph by any means.
This ought to be in the Documentary and Journalism gallery. Hope you agree.

Marc Erpelding, 19.01.2007 um 19:48 Uhr

I totally agree. In fact I had it on my list to propose it to the voting as well. Eddie I am glad you did it. Read my comment below...

I like the motive of Eddie's proposal.
I used this sort of traveling few times when i was in my college days, on the roof top of the train :)

I know I'm being critical here, but I vote pro because it deserves to be in that gallery... but from a technical view I find something missing. Maybe it's the colors that seem quite cold, maybe something else. But I'm nitpicking of course :-)
Big pro

Impressive, interesting environmental portrait.
The softness in color are tensioned by the diagonal lines, and your character is inmerse in that atmosphere trying to survive...
