Taking a picture of a match is not really a big problem.
This picture is taken with an Canon 20D and the macrolense 100 mm.
However, using a Nikon probably will lead you to similar results…;-)
F 14 with 1/250s in manual mode.
Manual focused on the match.
Flash intensity adjusted by try and error.
The main flash has to be on the back side of the match,
else the smoke does not look blue.
The second flash at the front is only to give structure on the match.
I light the match attached in an alligator clip from below using a gas lighter.
Using a tripod it is not necessary using the viewfinder of the camera.
Just light the match and release on the right moment.
