Masts + Monoliths, Lower Manhattan

The four masted windjammer Peking, one of the last of her breed,
is berthed at the South Street Seaport Museum in Lower Manhattan.

She was built in Hamburg in the early 1900s, and her history includes many a
voyage through the treacherous waters around Cape Horn. She enjoys her retirement
years in the calmer waters of the East River, serving as a maritime museum.

Her masts and rigging, rising against the soaring geometric forms of Financial District skyscrapers,
provided a fascinating play of patterns to savor and capture on this sunny late June afternoon.

And I always thought the harbour of Hamburg with the "Rickmer-Rickmers" (museum ship) is astounding. Your picture just has convinced me that there are even more impressive places than "Hamburg´s Waterkant" :-)

    Excellent with the contrasting background.

I was there twice and would love to see it again :-)

An excellent view of the windjammer - especially against the backdrop of the Manhattan Highrises!
