Lighthouse on Morris Island

The old tower was completed in 1876, survived hurricanes and a major earthquake, only to surrender to beach erosion. In 1962 a modern, newfangled light was erected on nearby Sullivan's Island, and the Coast Guard made plans to destroy the old Charleston Light tower. A local preservation effort thwarted those plans.

Once surrounded by outbuildings and a Victorian keeper's house, the old Charleston Light now appears to be drifting out to sea.
The old light can be easily viewed from the north end of Folly Beach

aber trotzdem wichtig, wenn er noch in Betrieb ist ?
Du hast eine schöne Perspektive gewählt und das milde Licht ist ebenfalls sehr fein.
Ich bin mir nicht im Klaren, ob Du auf einem Schiff warst, oder an Land.
Verrätst Du welcher Leuchtturm das ist.

@Herwiga : der Leuchtturm ist auf Morris Island und aufgenommen habe ich ihn vom noerlichen Ende von Folly's beach aus.
The lighthouse is located on Morris island and I took the picture from the north end of Folly's beach.

you have well captured the isolation of this lighthouse. the plight of lighthouses is world-wide... some of the tales of the light-keeper and their families is quite sad but enduring. thanks for sharing
