This head of Buddah comes from a statue destroyed by Burmese soldiers in the 18th Century in a temple of the Royal Palace area of Ayutthaya (former Capital of Thailand), in an attempt to steal it.
The head was forgotten in the place where the roots of the nearby trees framed it in this way.

Questa testa proviene da una statua di Buddah distrutta dai soldati birmani nel 18° secolo in un tempio dell'antico palazzo reale di Ayutthaya, l'antica capitale della Tailandia.
La testa fu dimenticata nel luogo dove le radici degli alberi vicini crescendo l'hanno incorniciata così.

Very beautiful done, especially the tones are great.
It just betrays a little because of the size... in reality, when one can see the relations to the tree - it's much smaller than it appears in your picture.
But size doesn't matter - also in Buddha heads! :-)

L'interazione dell'arte dell'uomo con quella della natura ...
Anche se l'ho davanti agli occhi faccio comunque fatica a crederci ... forse perchè non riesco ad immaginare gli anni che ci sono voluti per quest'opera particolare ...

Quelle radici potevano crescere in mille modi... anche nascondendo completamente quel pezzo di statua; ed invece l'accarezzano e proteggono, ancora una volta per dimostrare che la natura ci protegge contrariamente a quanto facciamo noi con lei!!
