Colonial Palace at Tervuren (Belgium)

My ‘Castles of Belgium’-series continues, however not with a picture of a castle this time, but one of a palace (…..what’s in a name).

The Colonial Palace was built from 1904 to 1909 commissioned by Leopold II, the then King of Belgium.

The King wanted to create a ‘little Versailles’ on this place and ordered the famous French architect Charles Girault to construct a palace with French gardens (a typical example of ostentation and braggadocio in colonial times).

The edifice is built in French neoclassical style and its interior is abundantly decorated with precious marble.

Not bad this house, I feel I could move in right away:)
Not as big as the Versailles but still pretty spacious.
I like the frames of leaves at the top of the picture and the image itself is also very nice.

Just as well this palace has not been built in Leopoldville / Belgian Congo.
That would be in ruins now and no longer such a beautiful sight.

Ein herrlicher Palast - so schön, diese vielen schmückenden Details!!! Wunderschön hast Du ihn in dem feinen Licht aufgenommen!
Die Grünflächen sind ganz besonders elegant - herrlich die Girlanden aus Blütenpflanzen und wundervoll die dunklen Eiben in dem wunderbaren Formschnitt!
Der Bildschnitt mit den feinen Ilexzweigen als natürlichem Rahmen gefällt mir ausgezeichnet!
