The Yellow Brain fungus grows only in crevices on dead bark parts from different kinds of deciduous trees.
This greasy and slimy fungus with its irregular and brains-shaped fruiting body can be found all year round, but mainly in late autumn and winter.
A beautiful sight in the dark and cold winter forest !
Dutch name : Gele trilzwam
German name : Goldgelber Zitterling
Latin name : Tremella mesenterica
a beautiful and luminous sight indeed! it looks a little as though a wood sprite – a very vain one ; ))! – has lost his silken scarf! a beautiful "sunny" find and capture, mark, and yet another fungus i've never seen before! great!! quite a disgusting name, though; ))! lg, sabine.
Fine exposed shot in a wonderful light.
I never knew that you can find fungi also in winter. Always thought they grow only in autumn.
The English name is fitting, but again love the German name "Goldgelber Zitterling".
Perhaps it's called like this, because those "leaves" are relatively fragile and do easily jitter in the wind...
