No trick: the effect is dued to the perspective and the use of a long focal lens, because the soldier was walking exactly along the top tight edge of the dune

Extraordinary composition. The texture of sand quality of the dune err...doesn't show up...which is pretty unusual and special.

I would say that the background sky was added later since the shape and size of the clouds doesn't match the perspective of the sky at horizon level.

As the image loads, bit by bit, the blue looked immediately to me like Sergio P .. and it was .. Nice image and very typical of SP .. well composed and a good subject but I am not really grabbed by it. As with quite a few of SP's, I feel the saturation is more than I find comfortable.
