Check the License Plate - It exclaims "Antique Vehicle!" But this 1953 GMC Pickup Truck doesn't seem to garner much respect from its owner. I was fascinated by its appearance and the message that it seems to convey: "I may be battered and blinded, but I'm still standing, holding my own and carrying my own load." I guess what we can take away from it is the virtue "you might be down, but not out!" Thank you all for your interest and comments.

OOOooo what a beaute! While I love the overall comp of this splendid specimen, with the surroundings echoing her state of delapidated grace, there is longing to inspect this one more closely. Look at that blind left fender! That grille! The running board with that pile of leaves, those reflections in the windshield! She's whispering, "I'm ready for my close-up, Mr. DeMille!" Wonderful creature, well presented.

I think Stefan's exposure on this is right on, giving us a nice balance between lows and highlights. The tonal quality is nice, with a range of colours, including a hint of green above the right fender (our left). I like the mood, the title, and what this picture stands for (as indictaed in Stefan's description). Pro from me.

Sarah D. Kiefer , 25.03.2007 um 21:30 Uhr

has its merits, but i don't feel 'gallery' about it. c addendum to elaborate on vote: saw the cup, tangled with its presence but "junkyard" is "junkyard" on the one hand. on the other hand the connect-the-dots diagonal of whitish objects (headlight to licensce plate to cup) are enough of a distraction to make that corner the sum total of the image imo. my eye stops there. additionally the 'modern' trash in the fg could create some interesting metaphoric tension here, but is not 'junkyard' according to this image's long-abandoned main subject that could stand on its own four wheels quite nicely nore is it prominent enough to add anything to the story...give it a bigger role in this or remaove it is what i think. attention must be paid to where an image goes if the vote is successful. now this could be an excellent abstract rife with compelling internal conflict if it was abstracted down to that diagonal of whites in the fg with more attention given to the pov from which this was shot.

Robyn Raggio, 25.03.2007 um 21:30 Uhr

I have to speak absolutely honestly about this, and although this is an image after my own heart for it's subject matter, I don't see Gallery here. It's a great documentation of the location and state of decay of this wonderful relic, but the presentation just doesn't lift it up into the an exceptional image. Therefore rather than contra, I shall respectfully skip. Sorry Stefan.

MAURICE CLEGG, 25.03.2007 um 21:30 Uhr

to me, this is one of stefans best images.
i like the full 'in your face' effect created by the large closely cropped image.
the toning and clarity are wonderful.
my only slight criticism would be that i, personally would have cloned out the white cup/container at the bottom of the image, to me it just slightly spoils the balance.
regards, maurice.

Klaus der Sandmann, 25.03.2007 um 21:30 Uhr

Abstract? Why? There's nothing abstract about it ...

Anyway, it's a good shot, and moreover, it tells a story. I like it. Pro.

Paul Grimshaw, 25.03.2007 um 21:30 Uhr

A reasonable image but common subject and it seems very 'digitised' in an 'over-sharpened way maybe .. also the composition is pretty standard and unimaginative .. for all this I would say it doesn't represent the best of this type of shot at all ... and the cup sitting on the bottom frame edge. sorry but C.

Stefan S. Mosley, 25.03.2007 um 21:30 Uhr

First off, a sincere thanks to all of you participating thus far. I feel compelled to address a few points for the benefit of clarification:

a) I apologize for the accidental placement of this image in Abstract environment, I hope, however, that the photo will still meet your approval based on its own merits.

b) In regards to the white styrofoam cup at the bottom of the photo: I pondered for a while on whether to remove it, but then decided to let it stay it in the picture, in order to underscore and pronounce the "predicament" of this vehicle that is treated like a piece of trash and seems as if thrown in the garbage together with a disposale cup. Hence the narrative (explanation) under the photo.

Sometimes what we observe in an image is stronger than all the special effects and artful enhancements and post processing. I believe Tom McAlexander and Gerry Dagonses have explained that point quite eloquently. It was my intention to let this picture speak for itself and deliver the expected impact.

Thank you
Stefan

I too had initially considered recommending the cup be removed; however, after giving consideration to the picture, the title, the image and meaning portrayed, I decided it needed to stay. Sometimes we need to look beyond the immediate image to see its value as art.

Just to clarify my position on the 'cup' debate ;0) It is only a small point and I personally mentioned it because it sat exactly on the frame edge and I would have preferred it to be more in frame as an object of meaning rather than giving the impression of after-thought or difficult composition/cropping. I dont mind the cup as such as it seems to convey something to some viewers exactly as described by Stefan.
